How-To: Use a Flight Aggregator to Find Cheap Flights

If you're a regular traveler, you would surely want to avail of the cheapest flight that you can get hold of. Going to the best places here on earth at discounted prices is, certainly, the best thing that can ever happen to you.

Well, here's good news! You can actually travel inexpensively, if you're patient and determined to find cheap flights from legitimate sites.

Finding cheap flights can be a hard task if you don't know where and how to look for them.

It's quite simple though, if you follow the instructions below.

How to Find Cheap Flights

Step #1 - Search from Budget Airlines

There are various Budget Airlines you can search from such as RyanAir, Tigerair, Flybe, Intersky, Interjet and AirTran Airways. There are different Budget Airlines for each country.

You can visit each of their websites and avail of great discounts, even up to 70%. Wikipedia has a list of these Budget Airlines.

You can also use aggregators such as Momondo, for Southwest Airlines flights; Canadian Affair, and DoHop for these cheap flights.

Step #2 - Search flight aggregators

Travel aggregators are extremely useful in searching for cheap flights because these websites can give you a comparison of prices of different flights from major airlines. Some provide also links to cheap accommodations.

Flight aggregators that can help you find the cheapest flights

Skyscanner

You can select your country of destination and the date you want to fly and Skyscanner can provide you the information you need to select the cheapest flight. That's what you call flexibility, and this is the main advantage of Skyscanner - you can select the dates and location easily and still find cheap flights.

For 3 successive years from 2010 to 2012, Skyscanner won the Travel Industry Travolution award for the Best Price Comparison Site.

Momondo

On Momondo you can compare flight prices of around 700 airline companies. You can conveniently choose from among these companies. However, it doesn't provide information on specific flights, but it has been rated as one of the best travel aggregator sites by its customers.

Kayak

You can search using your specific dates of travel. Airfares from numerous airlines are provided for your convenience. Kayak can provide cheap flights if you want to travel business or first class. Kayak and Momondo can go hand in hand to search for cheap flights effectively.

Rombo

Rombo provides information about cheap flights and cheap travel deals to your destination as provided by Ryanair. Ryanair is one of the Budget Airlines you can utilize to choose your cheap flights.

DoHop

Through flights.via.us.com, you can search more than 600 airlines, and 100 Budget Airlines all over the world. This site is good if you're in search of connecting flights and single tickets.

You can search for specific dates and destinations and find the cheapest air fares. In addition, it provides multi-language capability, so non-English speaking countries can find it useful.

DoHop has been cited by CNN as a good company to compare cheap flights. Times gave it a thumbs-up too.

Cheapflights

This is part of Momondo and provides a list of flights per season. You can use it together with other flight aggregators such as Kayak.com. It can offer the cheapest airfare from online companies, if you know how to navigate the site.

TravelChimps.com

At TravelChimps, you can compare cheap airfares, and book flights directly from the site. It also provides DoHop and Skyscanner services that will allow you to compare prices.

TravelSupermarket

You can conveniently compare travel deals from different airlines to select the cheapest flights to top destinations around the world. It also offers travel insurance for all types of travelers - an insurance that you must have when you're fond of traveling.

You can browse the travel deals that include cheap hotels, cheap flights, inexpensive car rentals and holiday packages that can make your vacation an enjoyable but affordable holiday.

TravelSupermarket won silver from the British Travel Awards in 2013 so, this indicates that you can trust the company/site.

Step #3 - Use booking sites or travel sites

You can also use online booking sites or travel sites to find your cheap flights. Examples of these are Expedia and cheapoair.

Expedia

Expedia is one of the most popular booking and travel sites. You can find cheap flights all over the world, inexpensive hotels in all places, the best travel deals, low cost flights and vacation packages all found on one site.

This site is considered the world's largest online travel company because it connects you to the greatest places all around the world with the best prices.

You can select travel deals and choose the cheapest flights you can afford. You can book directly from this site, and even avail of its last minute deals.

Cheapoair

Just like Expedia it can allow you to find cheap flights from over 400 airlines, hotels, car rentals and travel deals. Its advantage over Expedia is that it can provide details about last minute flights.

You can pick specific travel dates, and choose the cheapest flight. You can compare and directly book flights and hotels from Cheapoair, but you have to pay a service fee of $32 per person.

Step #4 - Search for "open-jaw" and "round-the-world" cheap flights

"Open-jaw" flights are multi-leg trips that have a return flight to another location or city. These air flights are usually cheaper than the regular flights.

"Round-the-world" ticket deals are cheaper than regular tickets, so you can take advantage of them too. But the downside of this is that you have to strictly comply with the specified dates and destinations because if you don't, then you'll be spending more money to change your date and destination.

Hence, if you're an impulsive traveler, "round-the-world" flights are not for you. You should opt for the "open-jaw" cheap flights, instead.

If you still want these "round-the-world" cheap flights, though, you can browse all the deals so you can choose the best deal for you.

They're not easy to find, if you don't know where to look for them. You can try the aggregators such as Skyscanner, or you can browse various airlines' website to find "Open-jaw" flights.

Tips on Finding Cheap Flights

  • The cheapest days to book a flight are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and the more expensive days are weekends.
  • Different sites may not provide specific flight information, but there are those that can do so such as, Skyscanner.
  • You can use Google ITA together with the other aggregators. This is to indicate specific dates and locations. This will help you maximize your search for cheap flights.

  • You can enlist the help of a travel agent. Do this if you don't have time to browse these sites, and you have money to spare.
  • Flights during the early mornings or late nights are cheaper. This is due to the fact that fewer persons travel during these times.
  • Almost all of these recommended sites provide specific services for free. So, you can use most of the free services in your search for cheap flights. There are sites though that would charge admin fees.

This way, you can be assured that the price and the destinations are the same. Sometimes, there are $10 or $30 differences, so you have to be sure.
