There is an issue going on in Australia that Encyclopedia Dramatica is racist towards Aborigines and the owner of the website could face charges under Australian law. Aborigines are a group of people and cannot be identified as one individual. If you go to the Encyclopedia Dramatica website, you’ll be surprised to see ton of articles based on biasness towards one person – racist, mocking, rude remarks and negative assumptions, but yet, even though these articles has a specific bullying-target to an identifiable person, it is okay and no controversy seems to be raised from it.
Yet the number of Aborigines can includes many people – not just one identifiable person and a charge warning is raised from it. Australia needs to understand that the world is a big place and anything can happen on the Internet. Racism, biasness and bullying are everywhere online, and in the same time, so are love, friendship and care. I think Australia should stop taking technology, especially one website, so seriously. Having pages being hacked started many years ago, online bullying can be found in history, and many more online threats are now part of the daily life on the Internet, and yet it seems fresh in Australia.
In my opinion, Encyclopedia Dramatica should not be charged, or even be talked about due to one page of racist content. Even if the racist page about Aboriginals is taken down, there are still thousands of other racist websites on the Internet! Is Australia going to try taking them off too?
