How to Moisturize Skin

I am a health freak and one of the areas that I am very concerned about is my skin. I was born with sensitive skin and because of this, I have had many experience about skin moisturizers and today I would love to share with you about how to moisturize skin.

The secret ingredient to all moisturizers is Glycerine. It is a lubricant based substance that softens the skin and also makes it smoother. In many moisturizers, this is the key ingredients. The rest of it would likely to be made out of harsh chemicals, fragrances, fruit extracts and vitamins. If you are serious about keeping your skin moisturized, I suggest you stay away from these harmful products. Most famous cosmetics company that focuses on beauty, rather than health, uses these ingredients and I don’t recommend them. I think that they are more for your skin to smell nice than to be moisturized.

I recommend brands that are focused on skin diseases such as eczema. I don’t know about other countries but in Australia, one of the brands I trust the most is QV. They have a wide variety of skin products and the one I use the most is QV Intensive Moisturizer. At first you may think that it is oil based, but in fact it is not. It will not block your pores or cause acne, however it is very oily. What I do is mix it with some Sorbolene cream. Sorbolene cream can be available anywhere and for a very cheap price. By mixing the QV Moisturizer and the Sorbolene, it would reduce the oily concentration of the cream and make your skin less shiny. If you are someone that has sensitive skin like me and needs to stay away from heat, I suggest adding 0.25% of Methol too. You can do this at the pharmacist but can take a long time.

Putting cream on your skin is just one step of having beautiful skin. Other factors such as drinking water and getting enough sleep are vital too. Try to stay out of the sun, wear sunscreen and follow common sense. These will all give you a better and more moisturized skin!

Twilight is Offensive & Inappropriate

Apparently in the ALA’s Top Ten Most Frequently Challenged Books of 2009, Twilight had been listed as offensive due to its sexual nature and swearing in its coming new books. I wonder what the author, Stephanie Meyer, has to say about this. I don’t know how many people thinks Twilight is offensive or have problems with the Twilight inappropriate to young readers but I think that children these days are growing faster and faster. Not only do they start to date and wear makeup in a younger age, they are also beginning to think and be part of the more mature world too.

It was reported that there are many complaints from school principles and librarians about the book, but I think it is the uniqueness that makes a book good and interesting. I mean, you don’t want to read about the same plot about a girl meeting a talking rabbit or saving the world from an evil source, would you? So with these new changes, it seems like sex and swearing is what novels are heading too… but wait a minute, do you see any bias here? For many years already, tons of young adult novels already had swearing in them, including sex and drug use. Now why is Twilight suddenly being targeted as the main culprit?

Twilight is just the same as other book except it has found a great pair of combination to make it a success and a distinct difference to all other books – vampires, sex, and lust. So do you still think Twilight is offensive? I think the only offensive thing, if any, is the link between vampire and sex. Plus with the upcoming graphic novel comic of Twilight, if readers can now see what they read, I wonder what more controversies would this lead up to.

Origin of the Vampire

With the growing popular with Vampires, many have wondered about the Vampire origin and who came up with Vampires in the first place. In most cultures around the world, there exists a creature that sucks on human blood. To the West, this had been noted as the Vampire and other countries have called it something else. I will concentrate on Vampires of the Western world.

The exact origin of the Vampire is unclear but most have believed they began during the medieval period. Back then when knowledge was still low, people would blame stupid things for silly stuff such as bad crops, death and disease. One of the things that people blamed on was dead people, especially ones that were accidentally dug up. They would discover the dead bodies to be covered with blood and mouth dripping guts. The people thought these dead people had come back from the dead and the reason for the blood in their mouths was due to them eating humans (or sucking on their blood). This was what a Vampire was and also where the term, “undead” came from. But now we know this happened because the dead bodies had not fully decayed yet.

So for people to stop them, they decided that if the Vampires can’t finish eating something, they won’t be able to eat other stuff. This is why stabbing their mouth with a lump of rock was common because rocks could not be eaten. However many have argued that Vampires came from a different period, known as the Romantic Period. This was the age where fantasy and superstition was the latest trend. Books such as Frankenstein was written at this time too.

But no matter where Vampires came from or what the origin of Vampire is, there is one thing we know for sure – they are for real!
